Hotel: Carlton Hotel
Location: Bras Basah
Room: Premier Room
From Changi Airport: We decided to hop on to a cab and got to the hotel in about 20mins. The taxis are pretty convenient and not a very expensive mode of commuting in Singapore. You can also get on to the MTR to the Esplanade Station and then walk down towards the hotel for about 2-5 mins.
Surrounding Areas: The most impressive part of the hotel apart from its rooms, coffeeshop, pool access and the hospitality is the ‘LOCATION’. Hands down an extremely convenient location for a first time traveller to Singapore. The hotel is located admist a line up shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants and the MTR.
- Marina Square is about a 2min walk down from the hotel and thats exactly where all the shopping malls are located that offer splendid dining, shopping and leisure activities.
- You can also hop on to the local tour bus from the Suntec Shopping Mall and I would highly recommend taking the tour to get a fair idea about what the city has to offer.
- The hotel overlooks the iconic Raffles Hotel that is known to be a tourist attraction for its colonial architecture and the famous high tea at the ‘Tiffin Room’.
- Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer are about 20mins walk away from the hotel. A great way to explore any city, is by foot.
- The Chijmes (pronounced as Chimes) is also a minute’s walk from the hotel and is home to exciting dining and nightlife options. Although, they can be a tad bit expensive than other restaurants/bars.
- Clarke Quay and Boat Quay make it for the most stunning slice of beauty, dining and drinking options Singapore has to offer and is located about 5-7mins away from the hotel by cab.
About the hotel:
Apart from its ideal location the hotel is quite spaced out, the hospitality is excellent and they make you feel at home, while your away from home. It was our home for about 3 nights and we loved every bit of it.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the bellboy and the reception staff. Due to our early touch down, we requested the hotel staff for an early check in and they were quite considerate towards the request and suggested to perhaps, enjoy the breakfast spread while they could arrange for a room. To our surprise, the room was ready in about 30mins and they had upgraded us to the Premier Wing. It was a delightful gesture indeed and it really made our day after a long night flight. The check was seamless and as swift as it could be.
While waiting for our room, I enjoyed gazing at the hotel lobby for its calming and relaxing vibe. Its always nice to breathe in to the vibe and tell yourself your on a holiday and its time to switch off from the world. Ah! how I miss being there already?!
Breakfast at Mosaic:
The breakfast spread was splendid and we had a variety of options to choose from. The oriental dishes dominated the spread as compared to the international ones catering to the large amount of Far East Asian guests staying at the hotel. The staff was friendly and very efficient in what they did.
Coffee and cake at Tuxedo:
For the most part, just by the look and feel of the cafe I was convinced that they can’t go wrong with their selection of fine patisseries and coffee at Tuxedo. I decided to unwind with a cuppa and of their most famous dessert – Chocolate cake with a raspberry compote. This for me, is match made in heaven! I still cannot get over, how amazing and rich the patisserie tasted. The coffee was made to perfection as well and was by far one of the best coffees I had during my stay in Singapore. If you plan to book your stay here, don’s miss out on cafe Tuxedo, I highly recommend!
Think about a room thats elegant, comfy, cozy and yet has an element of romance with a touch of red, sums up the decor of the Premier Room at the Carlton Hotel. We absolutely loved the layout and the space it offered to move about and was located away from the lifts which was a great plus. The bed linens were absolutely clean and were of great quality. I loved how comfy the pillows were!
The view from our room was the icing on the cake. We loved every bit of it and it looked spectacular at night. It overlooked the famous Raffles hotel, Raffles City Mall, and of-course, the Marina Bay Sands. Great view to wake up to, with a cup of coffee and breathe in the beauty that Singapore has to offer. We couldn’t ask for more and were quite sufficed with our overall stay at the hotel.
The in-room amenities were well laid out and we had access to almost everything from a work station, to a coffee machine, to a mini bar, to a LED tv which was pretty decent sized.
*The most thoughtful aspect was, an android phone provided to us with unlimited data and free local calls. This is by far one of the best features I’ve come across in any hotel. Extra brownie points for that team Carlton :)!
The bathrooms are quite transparent and you can look through the glass and enjoy your favourite tv program, while taking a much wanted dip.
The bathroom was spick and span and was well lit. The amenities were spot on and the choice of toiletries was good. From a luxe soap, to a body conditioner, to a razor and cotton tips and balls everything was well taken care of.
*The house keeping staff on our floor(12th), was a very humble lady who always went an extra mile to replenish water and other things in the room if required. Very welcoming and helpful in her approach and immaculate in her work.
The hotel also offers the following amenities:
- Free wifi
- Nail Salon
- Massage Salon
- Laundry Service
- Smoke free rooms
- Business Center
Overall, I would like to highly recommend booking the Carlton Hotel Singapore – Bras Basah based on my personal experience. It is a bang for you buck in every manner and you can thank me for the recommendation later. I had a fabulous stay and a memorable experience at the hotel. The staff is helpful and friendly, happy to answer all your questions. Take their suggestions on visiting the near by areas, you don’t want to miss on to them.
